Punjabi Firm Industry

Once there was a time, when the Punjabi films were produced quite in numbers, but slowly the industry started seeing dark days and it was even predicted that Punjabi movies will become part of history. But now with a release of couple of good Punjabi movies, once again the there has been a new momentum in the Punjabi film industry.
According to what we have been listening and reading around, it seems that Punjabi film industry is now following the Bollywood.

To start with, a hit of Harbhajan Mann, Dil Apna Punjabi, has proved that still there is a good production left, Although the past three movies by Harbhajan Mann were also good , but the craze for Dil Apna Punjabi was quite high. The film did a good business, especially in Indian, UK and Canada.
Another good one released was Mannat, starring Jimmy Shergill and Kulraj Randhawa. Jimmy’s previous punjabi film was “Yaraan Naal Baharaan , which also did a good business.
Punjabi cinema has moved from the balle-balle to the Oscars.
The Punjabi film industry, which was once left far behind and the average Punjabi hero was, most probably, considered a Hindi film reject. Then Jee Ayan Nu, with singer-actor Harbhajan Mann in the lead happened. It turned out to be the most popular Punjabi film ever.
Before critics could write it off as a fluke, came Waris Shah — Ishq Da Waris. The film based on the life of the 18th century Sufi poet, played by Gurdas Mann, was India’s official entry to the Oscars. Finally, Manmohan Singh could leave behind his “movies-for-NRIs” stamp for a global audience.
For those in Punjab’s film industry who resented Hindi film’s stereotyping of the sarson da saag, makki di roti and balle balle factor, the frames were changing fast.

While the star trek has begun with Juhi Chawla, Nagma, Jimmy Sheirgill, Anupam Kher, Sushant Singh and Aryan Vaid in the lead, bigwigs like Yashraj and BAG Films have entered the Punjabi market with films like Yaaran Naal Baharaan and Mannat.

Speaking of which, Chitraarth who worked on Chann Pardesi, came back with Raj Babbar’s Shaheed Udham Singh.
Punjabi singers Gurdas Mann and Harbhajan Mann’s success is not just inspiring many youngsters towards singing but also instilling a feeling to take to acting world in Punjabi cinema.

And if the Khans are ruling Mumbai, the Manns are the Kings of Punjabi cinema. Both Gurdas Maan and Harbhajan Mann still command huge audiences, “being close to our roots, culture and tradition.

Punjabi film industry has received a huge boost with almost all leading Punjabi singers and comedians also acting. Comedians Gurpreet Ghuggi, Jaspal Bhatti and Vivek Shauq have not only make a mark in Punjbai films but Hindi Cinema as well. “Every good looking and handsome boy goes to Mumbai first to struggle, he doesn’t focus on Punjabi cinema. But it’s not his fault because earlier the Punjabi cinema was not good enough to fascinate young generation. But now it is slowly progressing. Punjabi film industry is not yet ready to give change to new actors, but if Punjabi singers, who already have a fan following, enter the industry, it will be a great help to uplift the industry,” said Gurpreet Ghuggi, comedian-turned-actor. With the success of Punjabi films in India as well as abroad, Bollywood directors like Manmohan Singh are now producing Punjabi films. His recent film is `Munde U.K. De’. It looks the new generation of Punjabi singers is now ready to rule the Punjabi film industry and take it to places.

Jimmy's Punjabi foray has turned out to be quite fruitful for him. His TERA MERA KI RISHTA, touted to be the costliest Punjabi film ever made, has been carrying such positive buzz around it that it has destroyed all competition.

Luv U Bobby, which was out in theatre this June had a promising music with a fusion of rock, folk and classical music and has a cosmopolitan appeal.
The movie boasts of bringing two legends of Punjabi Cinema, Guggu Gill and Yograj Singh, together on screen after a long gap of 13 years. The film introduces Vikram Sidhu and Poonam in lead roles. The film also introduces Jiya Chopra, cousin of Bollywood star actress Priyanka Chopra.
