Bajaj Pulsars are machines that have reached more of a national iconic status in India, having surged ahead of the average two-wheeler.
The pulsar officially sealed the fate of Bajaj as a competent bike manufacturer which does more than just cater to the two-wheeler transportation needs of the people – with the highly spirited bikes plastering broad smiles on the faces of their owners. As soon as the bike was launched, Pulsar manufacturing factories went into overdrive with production. To date, Pulsars with their twin-spark plug-equipped engine provide fuel economy figures that satisfy the daily commuting bill, as well as levels of performance that quench the thirst of Indian motorcycle enthusiasts. Though the number of on road Pulsar 150’s is significantly more than its bigger brother the 180, the 180 DTS-i has always been an important Pulsar. Being part of a line-up that consists of the 200 DTS-i and flagship 220 DTS-Fi, the 150 DTS-I and the 180-DTS-I is an attractively priced Pulsar that Bajaj hopes you will turn to when you’re bored of the previous brands that the company manufactures. And the 150 DTS-i and the 180DTS-i has just taken its game a few steps forward. On laying eyes on the trendy looking new Pulsar 150 DTS-i and 180 DTS-i, you could mistake this new face for the older 200, as these sporty bike has a raft of features from its bigger sibling, including its mini-tank extensions, beefy front forks, split seat and grab bar as well as a nicer-looking exposed O’ring sealed drive chain. What’s more is that the new Pulsar also features sporty clip-on bars as first found on only the 220. The new Pulsar sports smarter raised letter decals and a tank-protecting pad atop the fuel tank. Other eye catching features on the new bike are the illuminated, contact-less switches, as is its four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 178.6cc power plant. Despite the new bike putting on a few extra kilos, the engine takes a marginally higher step-up developing 17.02bhp at 8500rpm and provides virtually identical performance to the outgoing model. The new Pulsar models uses a 1-down, 4-up shift pattern for its relatively smoother five-speed gearbox, and shifts via a light action toe shift lever as before.
On the launch, Manjeet Singh, the Regional Manager said, “These sporty bikes have more power and style and are an all generation bike”.

After A-Star, it;s Maruti RITZ
After the recently launched A-Star, Maruti Suzuki India Limited unveiled the much awaited, Maruti Ritz.
Overview
Maruti Ritz, an already well known brand know as Splash in the European markets. The name was changed because of registration problem as Splash has been already registered by some other manufacturer.
Ritz, which is available in both diesel and petrol engine is another new model for the Maruti Suzuki after the launch of Swift, Grand Vitara ,SX4 and A Star. Based on an all-new platform, the production version has some hints of the Swift and SX4, interspersed with a C-pillar design that harks back to the concept.
Design
Unlike traditional hatchbacks, the rear end has allowed for a thicker C-pillar and made provision for a smaller quarter glass that is not very different from the Swift. With an overall width of 1.68 metres, the Ritz is 8cm wider than the Wagon R+. Smartly shaped headlights give it a friendly appearance, and they combine with a trapezoidal grille to form a “face” that reflects the new Suzuki family identity.
The Ritz is streamlined rather than boxy, but it is uncompromised in terms of interior roominess, functionality, and configurability. Its profile displays a gently rising nose, A-pillars that blend into the roof and a roofline that gently slopes toward the back, culminating in an almost vertical tailgate. Short overhangs create a compact and neat appearance.
The tailgate has an inward obtuse angle to it, something seen more often on French hatchbacks. On the inside, the Ritz continues the raid on Suzuki's parts bin with the steering wheel, gear knob, door handles, indicator switches, etc first seen on the Swift/SX4. Though, that is where the raid ends.
Engine Options
The Ritz is launched with two engine options - petrol and one diesel. The petrol one has 1197cc, 4 Cylinders, K12M engine which generates 85 Bhp at 5500 rpm and maximum torque of 117 Nm at 4200 rpm.
The common-rail diesel is 1248cc engine which develops maximum power of 75 bhp. All these engines will be mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
The gear lever is mounted high up and the driving seat is, like the steering wheel, adjustable for height. It controls an electric power steering system with about the right amount of weight but no true feel of the road. Its suspension is quite firm, in an effort to keep it agile despite the height, so it feels accurate enough in corners.
Interiors
Discussing the features RS Kalsi, Chief General Manager (Sales ) said ,” For a small car the Ritz has a lot of room, with headroom especially good. The rear seat is set higher than the front seats so all occupants get a good view out, and all seats are comfortable enough. It's a proper four-seater, and big enough for five at a squeeze. There's plenty of storage space including a flip-lid box on top of the dashboard, a fair glove box and a tray ahead of the front passenger, but non-slip surfaces would make them more usable.
The boot looks small, especially front-to-rear, but there's a big compartment hidden under the false floor with the space saver spare wheel hidden in another layer below that. The rear seats fold down in one movement per side; the cushion cranking forward to make space for the descending backrest. The new flexible compact car combines the sportiness of Suzuki's successful model Swift with the technologies and immense know-how of the Japanese world market leader in the mini car segment.
Coloured surfaces for the dashboard create a youthful, casual look in the area of the passenger airbag and the upper part of the instrument cluster. Together with high-quality materials and a metallic-silver border on the centre console, they treat occupants to a pleasingly fresh ambience. The cockpit reflects a “less is more” approach, forming a stylish, functional space without superfluous flourishes or gimmicks. A large speedometer positioned centrally behind the steering wheel is easy to read.
A digital liquid crystal display (LCD) is positioned in the lower half of the speedometer and gives the driver additional information. In certain grades, a tachometer is separately mounted on the dashboard. The number of buttons is minimal, allowing for fewer distractions and thus raising safety. The shift lever is ergonomically shaped and is positioned relatively high in the centre console to minimise its distance from the steering wheel and permit extra storage space.
Variants & Price
The Ritz is not the successor of any specific former Suzuki model, but a brand-new concept to satisfy the needs of customers in terms of roominess, compactness, modern design, aerodynamics, quality, driveability, performance and environmental friendliness.
Ritz is available in a choice of 8 fresh colours, eight of which have a metallic finish. The Ritz is aimed mainly at urban, practical people with modern lifestyles, and it reflects the ideals of the second phase of Suzuki’s world strategy - a phase in which Suzuki is focusing not just on sportiness but also on the needs of families.
Couples and young families in the market for compact cars want a sporty, fresh design coupled with practical attributes such as roominess, flexibility and economy.

City becoming a hub for fashion industry
With a growing number of people becoming fashion conscious these days, Chandigarh is carving out a niche for itself in the world of fashion. It is all set to become country’s new fashion hub, as being a home to several fashion institutes in Punjab, the satellite city offers a valuable platform for all budding designers in showcasing their creative work.
With the state-of-the-art Fashion Technology Park coming up in Mohali, the township along with Chandigarh is all poised to become India’s new fashion hub, a venture that will develop this region as the Indian fashion mart.
India has a rich ancient fashion conscious culture. We must take a cue from these ancient concepts to prepare clothes and other products for the international market for export purposes. The upcoming park would not only attract domestic dealers but also foreign investors. It would also generate direct and indirect employment for the educated youth of Punjab, besides the village artisans and rural women folk.
The tri city is fast emerging as a hub of creative talent and creative skills of the younger generation. Earlier while the Punjabi customers used to go to Delhi and Mumbai for designer outfits, now it is all available closer home. Many Bollywood stars and some of India’s top fashion models recently are now turning their eyes towards the tri city. An annual design collection show that was held in the last week of May, saw a plethora of a range of designs by student designers from the Fashion design as well as the knitwear design and technology programme. Technology seems to be getting the best of fashion. Over the years, our textiles and clothing traders have gained substantial knowledge and expertise about sourcing products. They are able to cater for the preferences of a diverse customer base. They have developed global supply chains which respond promptly to world fashion trends and seasonal demands as well as the ability to deliver quality products with a short lead time.
While major retailers are putting more emphasis on branding and design to differentiate and upgrade the image of their products, our garment industry has been diversifying into services complementary to manufacture.
From boutique fashion to abstract designs and innovative surface ornamentations, the city best at display for the domestic and international market.
Fashion is not just about models sashaying down the ramp wearing beautiful designer creations. It is a complete industry and thus requires tackling the key market issues and outlining the business principles and ethics, besides encouraging entrepreneurship.
Insightful and thought provoking, as it is termed, the forum challenges the key market issues and hopes to deliver ideas for fashion business planning, development and innovation. It will also highlight the creativity of Indian fashion as it beaks through the global market.
The most powerful resource that is currently riding the nation is the youth. While the general elections proved the point, another area that believes in cashing in on youthful energy and creativity is fashion.
“The future of fashion in Chandigarh is defined by the young talent. City is fast growing, becoming upcoming Fashion center. Not only the national brands, but even the international brands are making it to the tri city, thus making a wider prospective for the designers”, says Ahbilasha Bhardwaj, working as a merchandiser in a private firm.
Garment design these days is taken as a serious design business where concept plays the most important role. You look out of someone who can talk design, was pleasantly surprised to rediscover that it does not take a degree to understand aesthetics.
The apt depiction of the rock revolution is shown in form of pointers: the rock music, spiked up hair, highlighted anecdotes from the 80’s.Destruction and then reconstruction formed a major part of the lifestyle the rock band had to project which is seen in the fashionable denim collection flooded in their stores. What is Important for a designer is to consider the aesthetic, functional, and many other aspects of an object or a process, which usually requires considerable research, thought, modeling and some interactive adjustment. Design underpins every form of creation from objects to the way we plan and execute our lives.
“In Chandigarh see a movement, a passion for constant change and appreciation is reflected in the way the youth churns out the ensembles season after season advocating a design process which encourages collaboration. The result is a lifestyle that so seamlessly integrates and makes us proud as wearers and dwellers of this city beautiful”, says Dr Prabhdip Brar, an Artist, art historian and designer and presently Head, knitwear design and technology department, NIIFT.

Shirin Mann’s collection of poem Behind Closed Doors
To avoid the emotions welling up inside us, we take the escapist route, evade them and bury the memories too in order to move on. Tough indeed, yet the most convenient option! But when Shirin Mann, 22, lost her father when she was just 12 and later her sister four years ago, she instead preferred to feel the pain.
“There wasn’t any point running away from what had happened. I lived every emotion bravely by jotting it down on a piece of paper. These are rather the treasured moments.” In the past 10 years, her feelings have vented out through poetry. On Tuesday, releasing her book Behind Closed Doors, a compilation of 40 poems, she dedicated it to the memories of her father and sister.
As for the name of book, she says, “I didn’t know how to express my sorrow when the tragedies struck. The grief was such that it couldn’t be told in words. Poetry then became the medium to express myself.” In all these years she has written some 150 poems in total but it was only the last year when her mother and friends discovered that she has the knack of writing poems. The book also has pictures to support the feeling with which she has written it. “I wanted people to understand the emotion behind every poem. From the cover page to every picture, I decided the way it should be, as only I knew how it would express me the best,” adds Shirin, who has done her graduation in political science from Delhi University and is looking forward to do the mass communication course from Panjab University. She credits her mother and brother for inspiring her through out.
She feels the book mirrors feelings of people, who haven’t been able to face the harsh realities of life all this while, “Not everyone can express themselves or is bold enough to realise their loss; the book would make such people empathise with me and face the losses they have suffered.”
Out of the 40 poems, just five are teenage notes; rest is written in a pensive mood. “The poems in the book also signify my life’s journey. In the first poem God’s Home, I have tried to say, my faith in god is shaken and he has deserted us. But the last poem, God Exists, redeems my faith in him. The bottom line is— life could have taken a worse turn but God saved us from that.” Faith restored!
The launch for "Behind Closed Doors", Shirin Mann’s first book of poetry, later took place at Chandigarh Golf Club.
The function was attended by Kewal Dhillon, Rana Sodhi , D.G.P Aulakh, Mrs Pratap Bajwa, Justice Rajiv Bhalla, Iqbal Sidhu, Harbans Sodhi and other.
The ceremony started with a speech about the great words about the book, a great introduction with picked out lines and in the end reading out Shirin's poem called "Shining Souls", followed by few lovely lines from her childhood friend Chitvan.
Shirin's Gradfather DK Singh spoke some very touching words describing Shirin's life and then a great speech giving examples of Frost and Woordsworth.
He said "I am here to release my granddaughter's book Behind Closed Doors. A fun loving girl, but she also has some emotions inside her regarding some loss she had. Who ever comes into this world has to depart. There is arrival and denature, but life has to go on and we must move on. Shirin’s book starts with God's Home and ends with God Exist, explaining her shaken faith in God in the first poem and in the end believing God's existence. Shirin has faith in God and for all of us we have to create God and believe in Him." Also on a lighter note he said, "A learned fool is more foolish than an ignorant fool.”
At the launch party Shirin ,whose dreams came true said, “I thank everyone for being a part of my special day. I am overwhelmed and nervous about my book. My book is dedicated to my Dad and it’s just a way of saying they are still missed and it can never be the same without them. It’s been hard and so I started writing because I felt lighter. When I started writing I did not think about publishing it, instead wrote my. Publishing my book has been an easy journey. Thanks to my Mom who's worked with me day and night. If my poetry can touch even one out of a hundred hearts, I’ll feel my part done. It’s a great honor for me to have all of you here and thank you again."
‘Thank you Mom’.
The money from the sale of the books at the launch was donated in treatment of children suffering from cancer.
